Description
As we rebuild and recover from the devastating wind and floods of Hurricane Helene, Toe Cane Beekeepers Association needs your help in replacing one of the smallest yet most vital creatures affected by the destruction — the honey bee.
An estimated 60,000 hives have been damaged or destroyed in the four states hit by the hurricane. NC State estimates more than 150 colonies were lost in our three-county area of Mitchell, Avery and Yancey counties. Even those bees that survived could starve due to loss of wildflowers, plants and trees.
Help us ensure the future of the honey bee’s crucial role in food production and its place in a sustainable ecosystem by supporting the TCBA and our beekeepers.
With your support, we can replace hives of bees that were destroyed and ensure the recovery of bees and beekeepers so important to our environment, our economy and our community. For example, to replace two hives with their bees and beekeeping equipment will cost $1,000. If a hive is salvageable, but the bees are not, bees usually cost $200.
By selecting a box below, you can provide bees, hive equipment, beekeeping tools, and educational opportunities to beekeepers.
